Stein and Lochbay

Stein is a village on the shores of Loch Bay. It was purpose built in the 18th century as a fishing village in by an organisation known as the British Fisheries Society. Unfortunately, the catches were very variable and the enterprise did not succeed. At one-time, the village was in some considerable state of decay. However the inn remains and there is also the LochBay seafood restaurant. Until summer 2000 this was owned by Margaret and Peter Greenhalgh, a couple from Bolton, Lancashire. Skye was their dream and they ran the restaurant for many years until they finally decided that they had seen one Skye winter too many and they moved to Portugal.

The first group of photos show the restaurant when Margaret and Peter had it.

At the entrance to the village on a bend is Loch Bay House. This house has had a chequered history being at one time a ruin and at another, a hippy commune. It is now in private ownership.

 A little lunch

We return to Lochbay Seafood restaurant in 2006. The food is still good, but we have to say that we feel Margaret and Peter offered more for your money. The restaurant now has a website.
