"Whereas the webmaster (hereinafter referred to as the webbor) hath constructed this site for the benefit of the rest of the world, hereinafter referred to as the webees) NOW THIS DEED WITNESSETH de minimis non curat lex, hocus pocus, sub judice, subject to contract nothwithstanding, comme ci comme ca and indeed etcetera." ..........or anything else lawyers say when what they mean is "I will take the credit for the good bits, but if it goes pear-shaped then don't ask for your money back!"
More seriously, and not having been around since the Iron Age, I have had to draw on secondary sources to chronicle the history of Skye.
These sources include:
"Skye", by Derek Cooper 1970
"The Misty Isle of Skye" by J.A. MacCulloch 1905
"Skye the Island and its Legends" by Otta Swire 1961
"History of Skye" by Alexander Nicholson 1930 (reprinted 1995 by the Maclean Press, Portree.)
Wherever I have used these sources I have tried to make clear that I am quoting their work.
Should any credits have been omitted I am happy to rectify matters and I am willing include any further information together with crediting the source on the site.
Should any deceased authors wish to contact me, please e-mail me for my address and correspond by post. I have to finance this site somehow and in the case of those communicating from the far beyond, the stamp on the envelope should be of considerable philatelic interest and a good investment.
You may think I have a low opinion of lawyers, which I am happy to deny.
I am however mindful of a deceased lawyer, a Mr. Strange. When his tombstone was ordered the suggested inscription was "Here lies Strange, an honest man and a lawyer."
Locals objected saying that this implied that there might be three people in the grave.
Finally a text was agreed, simply "Here lies an honest lawyer." It was realised that anyone seeing it was bound to say, "That's Strange!"
