From Broadford the road towards Portree continues north westwards keeping, for the most part, to the eastern coast of Skye.
The traveller will pass through Luib (where there is a tea shop and a museum), on the shores of Loch Ainort.
At the western end of Loch Ainort, the traveller has a choice. The modern way is to keep on the main A850, a well engineered road which sweeps onwards and upwards via a couple of sweeping bends blasted outof the rock.
There is however an older, single track road which hugs the coast and goes through the community of Moll (barely more than a house) and rejoins the main road at Sconser quarry.
This is a very pleasant route to take on a fine day and if one is in no hurry. the views from the old road are good on a fine day and there are plenty of passing places to pull off the road and picnic. If you do stop in a passing place, please ensure that you leave sufficient room for other vehicles to use the passing place as a passing place. If the passing place is not big enough to allow this, then do not park in it.
If you pause where the Moll road leaves the A850 (after you leave Luib, not at the Sconser quarry end) you will see the faint traces of a third track which connects the Moll Road with the A850 above the sweeping bends. This at one time was the main road!
