The Ascrib Islands

The Ascribs are a group of seven islands in Loch Snizort and are roughly mid way between Uig and Waternish Point. They are tiny and uninhabited. The biggest is barely half a mile long.

The water around them is however deep. It is said that it is possible to stand on the cliffs of the Ascrib islands and look straight down into six fathoms of clear water. This means good fishing.

When Skeabost House Hotel was in its heyday, the proprietor sometimes took the hotel guests out fishing in the hotel boat. Now, sadly, the boat is sold and both the proprietor and the ghillie reside in Skeabost Cemetery.
