Point of Sleat to is the most southerly point on Skye and there is to be found on the edge of a cliff there the tumbledown remains of Dun Ban, another old fort.
The motor road ends at Aird of Sleat village. In order to reach the point it is necessary to follow a substantial track for several miles till eventually one arrives at a lonely cottage on the shore. From there on, the path gets more indistinct but if you persevere, it is possible to walk all the way to Point of Sleat lighthouse.
This is most rewarding walk on a fine day with excellent views to be had of the Small Isles and also of the mainland . Janet and I sometimes picnic on the rocks by the lighthouse.
Not far from the lighthouse on the shore, there is to be found the remains of an old world war 2 naval mine.
